From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery, comes a tale of regret, betrayal, kidnapping, loss, madness, abuse, passion, love.
In this modern retelling of Hansel and Gretel, thirteen-year-old foster children Griselda and Holden escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity, and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety, but the other is left behind.
Ten years later, Griselda’s boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match, and her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring.
Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage, and a tangle of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the white water of the Shenandoah.
Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people–once profoundly broken–who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again.
✩Due to profanity, scenes of physical abuse and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. (Note: Children are not sexually abused in this book.)✩

Never Let You Go is the second Modern Fairytale I have read by Katy Regnery. Katy always amazes me when it comes to putting words on paper. I enjoy her stories, and will always be a fan, and a huge supporter. With that being said, none of Katy Regnery’s modern day fairytales are strictly about “Beauty and the Beast” or “Hansel and Gretel” it is just Katy’s twists of events that would make you think about these classics. None of the characters are related and these stories are full of love, and stand by themselves.
Now, getting to my review. I will say it took me a ways for Never Let Me Go to have me hooked, and I was! The First half we are getting to know their past, and how they ended up where they are in the present. At moments I did feel like it was repeating itself, and I would skip a few pages. By 60% in I was sobbing. This book will not only pull at your heart but you will keep Kleenex in business. I didn’t want it to keep moving fast. I wanted to hold onto the characters and all the feels that went with it.
Holden, oh the name, it just sounds like something strong. Holden was definitely a strong character. He had been through so much from foster homes, witnessing things he shouldn’t had. His heart was a little bigger than he thought, or ever could imagine.
Griselda is a beautiful character. She is rounded, her personality shines through the pages. She escapes through the Shenandoah finding safety, but leaves Holden behind, so far behind… 10 years of not letting go.
You can feel the chemistry with these two when they meet again. Sure, they have some bumps in the road, and at times Griselda did come off whiny. I will not mention exact moments or times, I do not want to give anything away, but there will be a time or two you will roll your eyes ha!
Never Let You Go is heartbreaking, but beautiful. It is friendship to lovers, it is overcoming abuse, and people never loving them for who they are. This story will have you wanting to reach out to foster children, it will have you begging to want to adopt all of those who are homeless. I know I do. You will go to bed, or doing life things and continue to think about H+G, you will forever remember I jump, You Jump, and Are You Whole, Or Broken?
