★ ☆★ ☆★ – 5 Stars!

After the death of her parents on the day of her college graduation, Delilah Armstrong thought she could finally follow her heart and come out to her closest friends, but the guilt of going against her parents’ beliefs haunts her. The feelings she has for her best friend, Ashley, are stronger than anything she’s felt before, but Delilah has never even kissed a girl, and fear stops her at every turn.

Ashley Carver promised herself that she would never again date another girl who wasn’t out, but that was before she met intoxicatingly sweet and sexy Delilah.

When another girl offers to teach Delilah the ropes, it changes Delilah’s whole world and gives her the courage to go after the only girl she really wants. But coming out isn’t as easy as Delilah imagined, and moving past her parents’ death and the feelings of guilt she is left with is even harder. The intense passion between Ashley and Delilah is too strong to deny, but coming together means risking everything.

Discovering Delilah is an edgy, evocative, romantic story of friendship, family, and the courage to love.

Everything about self-discovery can be found in this book! Foster hits the emotions from family acceptance, to gut instincts. It is more than just picking or choosing who you are, or who you are not to who you want to be.
Discovering Delilah really had me thinking about who in my everyday life is just dating, or getting married for the sake of what “society” thinks is right. A lot of time I am sure people don’t want to tell others they are “coming out” just due to if they will be accepted as a person instead of a smirk to a cold shoulder. Life is such a tricky game, and I can’t wait for it to be more diverse into what is right or wrong.
Delilah has to live with the permanent look of her parent’s disapproval of her sexuality for the rest of her days. She will always remember their beliefs in what should not be accepted.
Ashley is Delilah’s best friend, she has devoted herself to never date another girl unless she is fully out about her sexuality. She doesn’t want to get attached to someone who could potentially break her heart.

Ashley and Delilah’s story is about friendship, romance, passion, patience, and acceptance. They struggle through everyday struggles: jealousy, fear, and their relationship but it is so molded you want to read more and more.

I always enjoy a series that we can visit with all the characters from previous books. This book does that! You will see they will support Delilah through everything. True friendships, true family will always be supportive through everything in life, and will truly accept who you are regardless of what you do behind closed doors.

I always enjoy Melissa Foster’s books! They are so thought out, you can travel through the lives of her characters. You understand their emotions, and you want more of them! Harborside Nights is where my heart is. I have completely boarded the train, and will be looking forward to get to know more of the characters!
