 Title: Love Surfaced
Author: Michelle Lynn

Summary
The equations are simple.

Piper Ashby + Brad Ashby = Twin Siblings
Brad Ashby + Tanner McCain = Best Friends
Piper Ashby + Tanner McCain = Off limits

Tanner and I abided by the rules. We stayed on our designated sides of the relationship circle.

Ignoring swarming butterflies.
Brushing off skipped heartbeats.
Settling on lingering stares.

Here’s the secret … a hand extended over that invisible line once, exponentially changing the equation. I was convinced we could make our relationship work until Tanner broke the trust he embedded in me from the age of seven.

One deceit of mega proportions and the relationship we built for that short month vanished. I swore never to speak to him again and it’s worked. Until now—two years later, when my brother’s wedding places me face-to-face with the best man—Tanner McCain.

Leaving one equation to be solved. Can love surface twice?

Excerpt
“So when’s the owner usually get in?” He directed his attention to me as Zoey admired the numerous awards that lined all the shelves to the right of my desk.

“You’re looking at her,” I said shyly. I’m sure the last thing he was expecting to hear was that the girl who flipped out on him was the same girl who would be teaching his sister dance.

“Oh,” he replied, arching an eyebrow at me.

“Hey, Zoey, how about you go do some stretches before the others get here. Okay?” Talon directed his little sister.

“Okay,” she replied and skipped out of the room.

“You really should put some ice on that,” I suggested as I pointed to his jaw.

“Has anyone ever told you that you have a mean right hook?” He laughed as his humor danced within his dark eyes.

“I really am sorry.” A few giggles escaped me before we both fell into an uncomfortable silence.

“So…” He rubbed his hand down the back of his neck again. It wasn’t hard to notice that he would do that when his nerves were getting the best of him. It’s a tell-tale sign.

“So…” I mocked him.

“Do you always do that when someone scares you?”

My heart rate spiked through the roof at his question. I hadn’t talked to anyone about my crazy shit, except the counselor I attempted to see, and Adalynn. I took a few deep breaths to try and slow my heart rate so I didn’t flip the hell out in front of Talon again. I’m sure if I did he would take Zoey and run as far away from my place as possible.

“Umm…Not always,” I lied…flat out lied to his face, but in the smallest way possible.

“You might be able to convince someone else with that answer, but not me.” He tapped his finger on the desk, pulled a piece of paper from his pocket, and slid it over to me before walking out of my office and taking a seat in the area designated for family members.

I sat there in complete silence, staring at the check that paid for Zoey’s full semester at Graceful Moves, but it wasn’t the amount of the check that had me baffled, it was the way Talon could see right through the wall of bullshit that I had built around myself so people wouldn’t see the real me. I was the last person anyone would want their child around after all the shit I’d been through. Life had dealt me an outstanding hand, just to turn around and set it ablaze. Yet there I was, trying to gather up all of the ashes in hopes of building something just as good as what I’d had before.

Book Review: Wild @CherylStrayed

WildTitle: Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail
Publisher: Knopf
Author: Cheryl Strayed
Genre: Non-Fiction, Memoir

★ ☆★ ☆★ – 4 Stars

Summary
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State — and she would do it alone.
Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
“One of the Best Books of the Year”: NPR, The Boston GlobeEntertainment Weekly, Vogue, St. Louis Dispatch .

Review
Captivating.
It is about finding yourself, when you have lost so much. Strayed definitely let go, and went head on with nature. I found myself pushing for her to continue on, even through blisters, and missing toenails. I have loved every moment in this book, even with all the people she met along the way. I really enjoyed the back story as to her life before the trail, it painted a picture of why she decided to get real with herself.
One moment of the book that I loved was the horse named Lady. You grieved with her, but you continued to read through her words of everything she had to overcome.
Another part, closer to the beginning were she was screaming Moose! rofl! Oh, I giggled. Strayed has a way with words, and I enjoyed the humor here in there throughout the story.
I personally don’t know if I would ever be able to do such a journey but boy does this book give you hope.
Thank you for sharing your story, and I will definitely have to find the movie!

Summary
Seventeen-year-old Darcy Covington never had to worry about money or where her next shopping spree was coming from. Even her dog ate gourmet. Then one day, Darcy’s car is repossessed from the parking lot of her elite private school. As her father’s business hit the skids, Dad didn’t just skip town, he bailed on his family.

Fortunately, Darcy’s uncle owns a thrift shop where she can hide out from the world. There’s also Lucas, the wickedly hot fix-it guy she can’t stop crushing on, even if she’s not sure they’ll ever get out of the friend zone.

But it’s here among the colorful characters of her uncle’s world that Darcy begins to see something more in herself…if she has the courage to follow it.

Excerpt
“Truth, Darcy,” Lucas said. “How’s everything going? For real.”
I stumbled and he put out a hand to steady me, which didn’t help since the sudden warmth of his touch made me even more klutzy.
“I’m okay,” I said, once I’d figured how to walk again.
“You’re lying,” he said conversationally, like he’d asked me about the weather. He tossed his long dark hair out of his eyes and I swallowed, trying to maintain my composure. “You’re worried about something. More than usual, I mean.”
My lips parted in surprise. “How can you tell?”
He shrugged. “I just can.” I gazed down at Toby, whose tail wagged at warp speed. “It might help to talk about it,” Lucas said, his voice soft.
I glanced at him, startled at the intensity I saw in his eyes. I turned away, pretending to be interested in the jumble of model airplane kits in the window of the run-down hobby store.
His hand brushed mine, lacing our fingers briefly, but before I could catch my breath, he released my hand and took hold of Toby’s leash. He cleared his throat. “That’s what friends are for, right?”
Friends. Right. Of course. I let go of the leash, letting Lucas take over. “Yeah,” I said, my voice a little wobbly. We walked in silence and I wondered if I’d hallucinated the whole almost-held-my-hand thing.
“If you don’t tell me what’s up, I’ll just ask Charlie.”
I took a deep breath. Inhale calm. Exhale obsessive need to analyze potential hand-holding event.

Summary
All Georgie wants after she wakes up from her heart transplant is to go back to her old life, filled with good friends, a close-knit family, and her dream of getting into Juilliard to study the oboe. But almost immediately she starts to hear The Catch; a breath, a hiccup, in between her heartbeats. Worse, she’s forgetting things, things she would never in a million years forget, like the fact that she has a deadly strawberry allergy. In its place is the memory of her fifth birthday party…complete with a strawberry shortcake.

Georgie knows that memory isn’t hers, just like the memory of a room that she’s never been in or a lonely street corner that she’s never visited. Convinced that the memories are of her donor, she’s determined to figure out what happened to the girl whose heart now beats in her chest. The path to answers leads her straight to the boy that her donor loved, and into an underbelly of society that she never imagined existed. As Georgie searches for the truth, her own memories continue to disappear and she must solve the mystery of her donor’s death before she loses herself completely.

About the Author
KerDKer Dukey: I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active… I would want to change the script. I would watch films and think of ways they could of improved the story if they took another direction so I thought it best that I tell my own.
My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.
When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Excerpt
“Maybe we should take off before my brother gets back and hide somewhere.” Rain said with mischief lighting up his eyes.“I’d almost consider it if I thought we could lose him. Isn’t he one of the best trackers around?”

“Yes, but maybe he would get the message that we’d like to be alone.” Rain said as he put his arms around her leaning in to lightly move his lips across hers. Damn that felt heavenly. She moaned even though she tried to muffle it. His lips came back for more contact. This time he really kissed her not just with his lips but his tongue licked across her lips finding an opening. He slid in exploring her mouth until he found her tongue. Their tongues clashed struggling for supremacy until they heard a throat clearing. Dare was not her favorite person right then or Rain’s either by the look on his face.

About the Author
When she’s not out hunting rogue vampires and werewolves, you can find Crystal Dawn out exploring the galaxy. She can do it all without ever leaving her computer. She kicks ass, takes names, and puts it all down for the enjoyment of her readers. At least that’s what I think she told me. Writing came as a natural outlet for her overly creative mind. The start of her stories is the easy part. Finishing them is a little harder when all the stories are in there trying to get out. Other than writing, she loves reading, chocolate, fine sweet wine, and traveling among a large list of pursuits. Her favorite people, after her family and close friends, are her readers who she says are some of the most wonderful people in this galaxy and the next.

Review
Floored is an understatement. I am in awe as I sit here to type my review. This book had me wanting to know more, it kept my eyes moving with the action in the words. I wanted to did sit, in one sitting, just to finish the book, and to say I finished it in a day is unbelievable, but I did it.
I couldn’t believe at all the things each character went throughout the book, but for this to be based on a true story… wow!
I loved the fact that we got to understand more about life overseas, and what they have to endure. I couldn’t imagine the lifestyle there, it really brings everything into prescriptive on how much we have it made in America. It also brings to light of the not so good, and how much the internet can lie to us.
The Promise is just brilliantly done, and I can not put into words how much it meant for me to read such an incredible story. My niece even looked at me to say, “Wow, you must really like that book. You are so into it”
I would definitely recommend this book if you like a mystery, true story based events, and are looking for some action. Will definitely be looking for more of Beth’s work.

Summary
One year ago, I became a missing person. I left everything behind—family, friends, school. It seemed like a good idea at the time. My only option, really, until I realized running from a police officer isn’t as easy as I thought it would be.

It’s been exactly three-hundred and sixty-five days since I left home, but I’m finally ready to take the step I should have taken a year ago. I’m done hiding. I’m done running. I’m going to take my life back.

It was supposed to be easy. A meeting with Jason Pierce, a private investigator, was set up for me. All I had to do was go to him, let him do his thing, and then I could go home, or so I thought.

That is, until I met Jason and things got … complicated.
